Dead flowers

2017 – 2018

From the moment of seroconversion, the body undergoes a profound shift; as HIV integrates into our DNA, we are changed at a cellular level. This alteration at our core means our lives are forever redefined, marked by a before and an after.

This series draws a parallel between the human experience of living with HIV and the natural lifecycle of flowers. When a plant loses water, it doesn't simply cease to be—it transforms. Its structure takes on new, intricate forms that are simultaneously fragile and resilient. In this state of change, a different kind of beauty emerges; shapes sharpen, and colours deepen into a sophisticated new palette.

The Dead Flower Series serves as a visual metaphor for these major life transitions. It explores the idea that significant, often difficult change can cultivate unexpected strengths and a unique, enduring beauty.

These works symbolize how transformation can carry us to new perspectives we never anticipated. Much like the flowers in this series, these changes become an inseparable part of our identity—marking our history while defining our strength.
