2021 – 2022

In 2021, I was invited by ViiV Healthcare and NAPWHA to create a series of artworks based on discussions during community webinars. My role was to listen, synthesize, and create a creative visual response to complex dialogues surrounding the modern HIV landscape.

The webinar series covered a range of topics including, Polypharmacy and its impact on long-term health, the importance of Indigenous voices in the HIV response, community-led initiatives like The Institute of Many (TIM) and the global UNAIDS 2030 targets.

To preserve the depth of these discussions, I created a series of illustrations, which formed into a catalogue. This publication served a dual purpose: it showcased the visual art inspired by the series while providing a narrative that honored the speakers' original insights.

This project explored the historic intersection of art and activism in the response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. By translating clinical and social data into a visual medium, we created a new pathway for engagement—allowing a broader audience to connect with the concept of ‘Quality of Life’ in a way that words alone sometimes cannot achieve.

The success of this visual approach led to its abstract selection at two industry milestones:

  • AIDS 2022 International AIDS Conference in Montréal.

  • ASHM 2022 Joint Conference on the Sunshine Coast.

Title: Visual access to create greater comprehension: Incorporating the visual arts into a representational analysis of HIV community dialogue on living with HIV and a quality of life.

This project remains a highlight of my practice, demonstrating the profound power of design to foster empathy, simplify complexity, and elevate community advocacy to a global stage.
