2022
In 2022, I collaborated with the National Association of People with HIV Australia (NAPWHA) to develop the breastfeeding guidelines. This project was born out of a critical need to align community resources with the latest scientific advancements and evolving community knowledge regarding HIV and infant feeding.
The Project Goal: Informed Choice and Clarity
The primary objective was to consolidate the most current medical research and community insights into a single, cohesive guide. We aimed to empower expectant and new parents living with HIV by providing them with a clear understanding of the options available to them, ensuring they could make informed decisions for their families.
Following the principles of community-led design, the guidelines were developed in close consultation with people with lived experience. This ensured the tone remained empathetic, supportive, and grounded in reality. The guide serves as a vital bridge between clinical recommendations and the daily lives of parents, fostering confidence and reducing the stigma often associated with HIV and parenting.
These guidelines were created in conjunction with the ASHM guidelines on Breastfeeding for Health Care Providers.
