2016 – 2022

Over a six year period, I was art director and designer for Textile Fibre Forum, Australia’s premier quarterly publication dedicated to contemporary textile and fibre arts. In circulation since the 1980s, this iconic magazine serves a global community of enthusiasts, focusing on innovative techniques, materials, and exhibition highlights.

Design process

  • Upon taking the creative lead, I executed a redesign to modernize the magazine’s visual language while honoring its long-standing legacy. Each issue featured a contemporary, clean aesthetic that allows the intricate details of the artwork to take centre stage.

  • Each 68-page edition carefully balanced in-depth articles on both emerging and established international artists, to create a rhythmic and engaging reading experience.

  • I oversaw the entire finished art process, ensuring quality standards for print.

‘Dan’s design layouts for Textile Fibre Forum magazine are always well-considered and effective. The articles are strong on imagery, and his placement of photographs create striking spreads and dramatic openers. He often surprises me with his ability to identify details in photographs that can be cropped and used in creative ways. I enjoy working with him and seeing the results of our combined efforts come to fruition in each issue of the magazine.’
